" A little bit folk, a little bit rock, a little bit country, a little bit not"
"East Nashville’s Pale Blue Dot have a links page on their website that includes Badly Drawn Boy, Bill Hicks and David Icke. it’s a strange mix don’t you think? What it has to say about the band or this excellent record is debatable but there is obviously a sub-conscious link there that probably holds the fundamental ‘meaning’ as to what this band are all about. A simpler route would be to buy this record at the first opportunity and just let these fourteen pop nuggets cast their own spell on you. Reference points? Think a stoned-out Neil Young with the wit and deviance of The Kinks. Tracks like “Things That Aren’t Even There” - a riot of “Rainy Day Women #12” proportions in its sharp humour and raggle-taggle approach - and “Married Woman (Heart On Fire)” are essentially folky-pop that is retro in feel yet wouldn't be out of place on, say, Mark Radcliffe. You can’t help think that given the right ‘cool’ label and marketing spend Pale Blue Dot could well be a happening band. The Collins family - Scott, Justin, and Kim - have clearly got the formula just right in creating music that is full to the brim with cute melodies, endless singalong choruses, and a sound that flits between modern day whimsy and rock’s more salubrious past. Inevitably, in all reality, this is the sort of band that will probably release a couple of records, be ‘massive’ in their home town and have about as much a telling impact on the musical world as Blazing Squad. But playing again the anthemic “Ode to Joy” or “New York Crush,” quite simply 2007’s best pop song so far, and the tear jerking closer “Countless Rings” it is clear what a sad loss that would be. A couple blips aside Western Scene is a mighty fine effort indeed and will be on the kitchen play list for many a moon I betcha. "
Pale Blue Dot are to be featured this week, Mon. Sept. 18 through Fri. Sept. 22, on Nashville's WRLT 100.1 FM Local Lightning Spotlight everyday at 2:40 pm and 8:40 pm. WRLT will be playing Married Woman (Heart on Fire) from PBD's new album Western Scene. Please tune in and email or call the station with requests and feedback to help get this song is regular rotation. Ciao!

Just returned from a successful first trip to SXSW in Austin...nice town down
there, met a lot of very progressive people...also played our first New Orleans
gig, beautiful people there, too...can't wait to get back to both places...In
the meantime, though, we'll be continually working on the new record...it's
getting close...we'll be rotating some rough cuts from the new project every
couple of weeks or so on the music link and here on the news link below.

Special thanks to those who attended the Phantom Suitcase release show last
night at Radio Cafe. Thanks to Kim and Justin for playing with me, Sam for
a lot, Daniel for selling my merch, Dave for having me, and every single hand
that clapped...It was a pure joy to perform live many songs that have prior
only bounced off the walls of my living room, and a personal milestone for
me to release a solo acoustic record...in the vibe of where I began musically
in New York years ago....We'll do it again soon I hope...Happy Birthday Carter
and Larry!...peace.

We just returned from a short but great tour through the northeast...NYC,
PHilly, and Delaware...thanks to all our supporters up there...You make the
shows special...Also thanks to all the new fans we met, new clubs we played,
and artists we played with...We were privileged to share the stage with some
great talent this tour...we'll see you again soon....We also filmed a video
for "Things that aren't even there" while we were in NYC with our
talented film-maker friend Luke Leonard...a few stills are on the photos-live
shots page...We hope to have the whole video posted soon...If you live
in New York, you can see a short film entitled "No Account Film"
at the Flicker Film Festival on June
25th at the Knitting Factory which was directed by Leonard and scored by Pale
Blue Dot (unreleased music)...Wa also filmed and recorded the show at Pianos
in New York's lower east side....We'll see what happens with that.
MAY 1, 2004

albums to be released soon (possibly as a double LP), both recorded at Artist
Revolution Studio...This is a new link, more news to be added later and updated
